The University of Manitoba in located in Winnipeg, Canada, which is the capital of the province of Manitoba. The University of Manitoba is the largest university in the province of Manitoba. Founded in 1877, the University of Manitoba was the first university in Western Canada. After the University of Manitoba was founded, a number of colleges joined it, one by one. The Manitoba Medical College was the first in 1882, which was followed by the Methodist Church's Wesley College in 1888, Manitoba College of Pharmacy in 1902, Manitoba Agriculture College in 1906, St. Paul's College in 1931, Brandon College in 1938, and St. Andrew's College in 1946. Additional colleges were also founded by the university and some of the colleges, such as Brandon College, later left the university to become new independent universities.
